VINEYARDS, WINE & CELLAR DOOR
Morning Star Estate has the oldest vines on the Mornington Peninsula!
The first plantings at Morning Star Estate were in 1932 by the Franciscan order. The vines planted here are Cabernet, Shiraz, Pinot Noir and are set on a south west facing, slightly sloped block of 2 acres, it is known as the Franciscan block.
This site is the oldest planting of vines on the mornington peninsula and produces amazing wines. The 2002 vintage Pinot Noir still available today is the most awarded wine, receiving 95 points in the 2005 edition of James Halliday’s wine companion.
The vineyards today are spread over 38 acres and grow Chardonnay, Pinot Gris, Pinot Noir, Shiraz and Cabernet.

Robert Frewer and his son now manage the vines and produce bottles of wine under their Sommerbury Estates label, Jonesroad.

The Frewer family established Jones Road vineyard in 1997 at Somerville on The Mornington Peninsula overlooking Westernport Bay.
“Winemaking at Jones Road starts in the vineyard. Careful management of yields and hand picking ensure the grapes reach the winery in premium condition”. Vineyard owner, Rob Frewer, and son Matthew, vineyard manager have nurtured the vines since planting and always take a hands-on approach throughout the year especially at vintage when timing is critical for optimum baume, pH and acid levels.
Wines are made at Sticks Winery in nearby Yarra Valley by winemaker Travis Bush. Here they are given special traditional treatment whilst using the best handling methods combined with the latest technology. The wines are matured in the finest quality new French oak for at least ten months before being bottled and laid to rest until the flavours develop.
